The primary source of income in Elsweyr is the exportation of moon sugar, which is used to make Skooma. Despite this, many criminals and dealers will sell this to anyone that is interested in buying their product. Since skooma is a narcotic, the Empire has banned it in many provinces. Despite this, an Argonian addict of the drug named Wujeeta was able to cure her addiction by drinking a healing potion. Only once the addict overcomes the burden of their own self-despising is there the possibility of redemption. This, however, is false, and one may free themselves and regain control through knowledge, understanding, and self-acceptance.

In fact, is a common truism amongst the Khajiit that no such cure exists that one who has become dependent upon it is forever made a hopeless slave to its allure. Once someone has become addicted to skooma, it is said there is no potion, blessing, or magical incantation that can cure them. Some of the more addictive effects of the drug are bouts of euphoria, protracted lethargy, loss of voice, minor fits, and possibly death. When used, skooma increases the user's strength, speed, and restores stamina. Since then, the drug has been used across the continent.
